Resveratrol Weight Loss

Resveratrol Weight Loss

This CBS news clip asks the question ” could Resveratrol be an anti-aging and cancer prevention breakthrough ?” Dr Robert Sclafani explains how resveratrol fools the cell into thinking the DNA in your body has been damaged thus turning on a response mechanism so that the cell no longer divides.

Can Resveratrol help You Lose Weight ?

One of the most recent claims is the link between resveratrol and weight loss. There are a few theories of why these two are linked to one another. Some theories involve resveratrol speeding up one’s metabolism. Other theories discuss the fact that resvertrol increases one’s energy allowing them to lead a more active lifestyle, resulting in weight loss. Regardless of which is correct, one must remember that with any weight loss supplement, it is important to compliment your supplements with exercise and a proper diet.

Resveratrol and Its Many Benefits

Resveratrol is a type of substance known as a phytoalexin. Phytoalexins are antimicrobial substances that are secreted by plants, usually in response to pathogens such as certain fungi or bacteria. There are numerous human and animal studies looking into the effects of resveratrol. While there is evidence that this substance may help to improve overall health, there is still not enough evidence to confirm this.

Studies have been done looking at fruit flies, nematode worms, fish, mice, and rats. Several of these studies have reported anti-inflammatory effects, blood-sugar-lowering effects, anti-cancer effects, and improvements in general cardiovascular health. While these results are promising, it is still important to be cautious, as studies in humans are still ongoing.

One human trial suggested that extremely high doses, on the level of 3 to 5 grams, had the potential to significantly lower blood sugar levels. Anti-aging effects have also been alleged, and many have reported positive effects from a resveratrol regimen. However, the evidence is still out as to whether these effects are real and measurable in human populations.

In 2006, resveratrol made headlines when studies demonstrated that overfed mice were prevented from gaining any further weight through the inclusion of the substance in their diet. It has also been identified as being a powerful antioxidant, and there is compelling scientific evidence that antioxidants may have anti aging properties. This function is thought to be accomplished by virtue of the fact that antioxidants absorb free radicals, which are widely considered to be one of the main causes of aging.

Resveratrol is a natural chemical found in foods such as the skin of the red grape. Because of this, it is also found in red wine. It is also found in peanuts and mulberries. One of the most common ways in which people consume resveratrol, is through dietary supplements, which are derived primarily from the Japanese knotweed plant.

One of the mechanisms by which resveratrol is said to work is by preventing damage to the blood vessels, and aiding them in moving blood to the parts of the body that need it. Because of this increased blood flow, and its antioxidant properties, it may have the benefit of protecting against the dangers of oxidized fat. This may have a beneficial effect on the prevention or treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

More Energy -Resveratrol Weight Loss

It is also said to modify the body’s energy balance, metabolism, as well as help in cell survival. Many have reported improved balance, endurance, hand-eye coordination, and sensory-motor skills. Other tantalizing health benefits are also possible with resveratrol, including promoting healthy cell functioning and reproduction, promoting increased and sustained muscle functioning, supporting weight loss goals, increasing cardiovascular health, counteracting muscle fatigue and post exercise recovery, increasing energy and stamina, and aiding in immune system functioning.

Resveratrol is also thought to be of possible benefit to athletes participating in endurance sports. Many people believe that the supplement is of benefit for improving the mental strength and acuity of athletes, especially when they exercise and get the blood flowing. Stamina however, may be the main area that could benefit from supplementation. Stamina and endurance have been suggested as being two of the main factors that could be improved by athletes who use supplementation. Improved blood flow and stamina may be features that can tremendously help athletes in performing at their optimal efficiency.

Though studies are ongoing, some people are convinced enough in the efficacy of resveratrol for endurance sports that they are worried that it may eventually be placed on the banned substance list. They believe that it offers such a great and obvious benefit that it could be considered a performance enhancing substance, on the same level as steroids. Fortunately, there are no sports organizations that currently ban resveratrol as a performance enhancing substance, so if it is indeed as potent as some believe, athletes have free reign to use it as they wish in order to gain a competitive advantage.

It will take much more research in order to confirm the bulk of these claims. However, the evidence that we have so far is a tantalizing taste of what may be to come. If many of these claims are shown to be true and valid, it will become apparent that resveratrol is a truly remarkable substance. It would behove anybody who is interested in these benefits to keep an eye on the scientific literature for further reports and studies.

One popular method of administering resveratrol is by what is known as the buccal delivery method. This method involves swishing the liquid in the mouth before swallowing in order for it to be absorbed through the cheeks. Studies have seemed to suggest that this leads to a greater amount of the substance being passed on to the blood. Many people recommend swishing red wine around in the mouth before drinking specifically for this purpose. Many people employ this technique anyway because they feel that it enhances the flavor of the wine.

Unfortunately, the evidence seems to indicate that this method provides only a temporary spike in the blood’s levels of resveratrol. These levels are quickly metabolized and passed through the body, whereas other forms of ingestion may provide a more consistent lower dose in the bloodstream, which may have a more positive effect. Other forms of consumption are in the works, such as a possible new gum that will provide a convenient method of delivery and may be much more efficient as well. It is expected to provide one of the best, or at least most unique, supplement consumption experiences.

Obviously, resveratrol is an exciting product that has many possible benefits that should be explored and studied by modern medical science. It is fascinating to think of the breakthroughs that could occur if much of this research turns out to bear fruit. Although this is just one of the many avenues of scientific medical inquiry available to modern science, it may very well be a particularly lucrative one that results in great benefits for human health.
